Firefighters are actively working to extinguish a gorse wildfire on Mullins Hill in Killiney, south county Dublin.
Crews from Dún Laoghaire, including three fire engines, a wildfire response jeep, and a water tanker, have been dispatched to the scene.
Dublin Fire Brigade (DFB) has reported that a strong wind is spreading smoke over a wide area, but firefighters are making significant progress in containing the blaze. Despite the challenging conditions, there are no reports of injuries or threats to properties.
The incident is ongoing, with DFB continuing efforts to fully extinguish the fire. However the situation appears to have somewhat stabilised for the moment.
Local TD Cormac Devlin of Fianna Fáil praised Dublin Fire Brigade for their efforts.
Update 15:30 – Dublin Fire Brigade say that a fire has started again on Mullins Hill, and that they have firefighters at the scene dealing with it. There is now also a fire at Rathmichael. At the moment there are no reports of injuries.
Killiney Hill has been a source of wildfires for some years now. Last year, Dublin County Council engaged Wildfire and Ecology experts to execute a Wildfire Management Plan for both Roches Hill and Killiney Hill. This consisted of creating buffer zones, where vegetation was reduced to create fire breaks on the hills.
