The programme for Culture Night Dublin 2024, scheduled for Friday, September 20, has been announced. This annual celebration will showcase 300 events across the city and county, involving over 250 venues.
A blend of local and international performers will participate, and Dublin’s Lord Mayor, James Geoghegan, expressed his enthusiasm about the coming together of different cultures.
He said “Culture Night does show exactly how diverse this city is; one in four people who live in this city are non-Irish national people, and that’s what culture night is about, it’s about celebrating all of the diverse cultures.”
Culture Night is an initiative by the Arts Council that celebrates culture, creativity, and the arts across the nation. It aims to promote the idea that our rich and diverse cultural heritage is vibrant, cherished, and nurtured in people’s everyday lives. The event takes place nationwide, spanning cities, towns, villages, and rural areas, and is also accessible online through various media partners.
This year’s programme includes several specially commissioned events supported by Dublin City Council:
- Seisiún Palaistíneach at the Wood Quay Amphitheatre will unite Irish and Palestinian musicians for a traditional music concert.
- Squish Stomp Spin, The Magic of Stim at Meeting House Square will use circus and spectacle to destigmatize stimming and promote positive representation for neurodivergent individuals.
- Brazilian Paradise at Central Plaza will feature introductory classes in Brazilian Forró dance and performances by Dublin’s renowned samba group, 353 Samba Club.
- City Sounds will transform Central Plaza, Essex Street, and Capel Street into open-air dance floors, highlighting Ireland’s emerging soundsystem culture.
- The Abbey Theatre will offer complimentary tickets to the dress rehearsal of their upcoming production Grania, and CoisCéim Dance Theatre will provide free tickets to their performance DanceHall Blues.
Other highlights include the National Symphony Orchestra’s evening dedicated to contemporary American composers John Luther Adams and Philip Glass at the National Concert Hall on Earlsfort Terrace. Atelier Now on Charlemont Street will host an open studio with artist Maser, while Flux artists’ studios on Chatham Row will celebrate their official opening with a members’ exhibition.
