The Phil Lynott Convention

August 24 -6:00 pm - 10:30 pm

Come celebrate the legendary Phil Lynott with fellow fans at our convention on August 24th, 2024!

The Phil Lynott Convention presents the 3rd annual visit to Dublin this August 23rd and 24th.

A tremendous and impressive weekend awaits, celebrating the Legacy of Phil Lynott. The music of Thin Lizzy, Grand Slam and Phil’s solo career.

We celebrate his significant land mark age, of what would have been, his 75th Birthday.

Grand Slam, Live Lizzy, Falling Hazard, Shades of Lizzy, Daniel Kennedy and special guests all the way from Japan, G-Scars presenting a suitable tribute to Gary Moore.

All will present some blistering music to celebrate the music legacy Phil Lynott.

You simply have to be impressed with the quality line-up for this weekend both nights to be held at The Grand Social in Dublin.

Friday 23rd August.

The original Grand Slam was formed by Phil Lynott and Laurence Archer after Thin Lizzy went their separate ways. Laurence has kept the ethos of the band together and has produced two albums with the new line-up, ‘Hit the Ground’ first released in 2019 and has been revised and remastered this year and their new offering ‘Wheels of Fortune’ which is now available from June 7th.

Their live show has been described as highly charged rock and full of energy and sheer power.

Vocalist Mike Dyer delivers a strong confident vocal, while Rocky Newton and Benjy Reid hold it together with a tight rhythm section.

The highly acclaimed guitar playing of Laurence Archer will step forward to deliver some highly melodic guitar licks that are capable of stopping ships in mid ocean with rawness and pulsating grooves.

The night is supported by G-Scars who travel all the way from Japan to pay special tribute to Gary Moore and his music.

Falling Hazard are one of the most highly acclaimed Thin Lizzy Tribute bands in Europe and are very capable of delivering a blistering set from the huge catalogue of Lizzy tunes.

Saturday 24th August.

Afternoon:

Lizzy fans will meet 2pm at the Phil’s statue in Harry Street to sing a few songs and recite some poetry. His has become a routine to pay homage to Phil.

Then at 4pm a trip to the Halfpenny Bridge, where Phil famously recorded the video for ‘Old Town’ which has become a classic song and features some great sites in Dublin.

Hopefully we will get everyone to sing ‘Old Town’ and bring the bridge alive with song for just a few minutes.

Evening:

Three quality acts take the stage of The Grand Social at 6.30 to entertain in style and substance with Live Lizzy headlining.

Live Lizzy, a Cork based Lizzy tribute took everyone by surprise at last year’s Bloody Stream party in Howth. Fans simply didn’t realise just how good this band were as they delivered a highly energised set of Lizzy favourites and should not be missed this time around. You won’t be disappointed.

Shades of Lizzy present as a three piece and make the ideal band to warm the crowd and get to feet tapping and the hands clapping.

Daniel Kennedy fills the gap nicely with his showcase of virtuoso guitar playing.

This will be a memorable weekend in the Conventions history and should not be missed.
