Griffith College extends a warm welcome to you to discover the storied history of its campus as it celebrates its 50th anniversary.

Celebrating it’s 50th anniversary, Griffith College extends a warm welcome to you to discover the storied history of its campus. Built as Grimswood’s Nurseries in 1813, construction began on a remand prison which became known as the Richmond Bridewell. The likes of Daniel O’Connell and James Stephens became housed here and the site also saw the execution of Joseph Poole in 1883. It housed hundreds of prisoners including some from the 1916 Easter Rising, became the Wellington Barracks in 1892 and was one of the first barracks turned over after Ireland gained independence.

Renamed the Griffith Barracks, after Arthur Griffith in 1922 or 1923, it was eventually purchased to be utilised as a tertiary education institute in 1991 and today serves as home to Ireland’s largest independent third-level education provider.

Discover all of this and much more with a guided tour of the campus.
